Why We're Evolving from O*NO Legal to Realgate Legal: What It Means for Real Estate Agents, Business Owners and Property Professionals

Most law firm rebrands happen because someone wants a new logo.
This isn't one of those rebrands.

The decision to evolve from O*NO Legal to Realgate Legal came from a simple realisation.
Our clients had changed.
And we had changed with them.

When I started O*NO Legal, our focus was helping real estate professionals navigate the legal side of running and growing successful businesses.

Like many specialist firms, we began with a niche. We understood the challenges agency owners faced because we worked with them every day, employment issues, compliance, rent roll transactions, succession planning and business growth.

But over time something interesting happened.
The conversations started changing.
Clients weren't just asking about agency agreements and compliance anymore.
They were buying businesses, selling businesses, acquiring rent rolls, developing property, growing teams. Planning succession. Buying investment properties. Launching new ventures. Managing increasingly complex risks.

What became clear was that our clients didn't just need legal documents.
They needed trusted advisors who could help them navigate opportunities while protecting what they had worked hard to build.

That's why O*NO Legal is evolving into REALGATE Legal.
It's not just a new name.
It's a reflection of where our clients are today and where we're heading together.

Why We Chose the Name Realgate

People often ask how law firms choose a new name.
Some choose names based on the founders.
Others choose names based on legal terminology.

For us, the answer came from the role we believe lawyers should play.
The name REALGATE is built around a simple idea.
Every gate serves two purposes.
It opens opportunities. And it protects what matters behind it.
That's exactly how we believe legal advice should work.

Too often, lawyers are seen as people you call when something has already gone wrong.
A dispute, a claimor a problem.

While those situations will always exist, we believe the best legal advice happens before problems arise.
It's helping a client structure a transaction properly.
It's identifying risks before contracts are signed.
It's putting the right agreements in place before a relationship breaks down.
It's helping someone plan for succession before they're ready to exit.
It's helping a developer avoid a costly mistake before construction starts.
It's helping a business owner move forward with confidence because they understand the risks and opportunities in front of them.

The name Realgate captures that philosophy perfectly.
Opening opportunities. Protecting what matters.
That's what we've always done.
Now we have a name that reflects it.

How Our Clients Have Evolved

One of the advantages of working closely with real estate professionals is that you often get to see their entire business journey.
Many of the clients we worked with years ago as small business owners are now running significant operations.
Some have acquired multiple rent rolls. Some have expanded into multiple locations. Others have become developers, investors or business owners outside real estate.

Many are now planning succession or considering what life after business ownership looks like.
As their businesses evolved, the legal support they needed evolved too.
The reality is that very few business owners fit neatly into a single category.
A principal might also own investment properties.
A developer may also own an agency.
A business owner might be planning succession while acquiring another business.

These decisions rarely happen in isolation.
That's one of the reasons we saw an opportunity to expand the ways we support clients.
Rather than simply helping clients solve legal issues, we wanted to help them navigate the broader journey of business ownership, property ownership and growth.

Case Study
Supporting an Agency Owner Through Growth and Exit Planning

One agency owner first approached us years ago with what seemed like a relatively straightforward employment matter.
As the relationship developed, we assisted with contractor arrangements, business structures, compliance reviews and strategic growth decisions.
Several years later, the conversation shifted again.
The focus became succession planning and preparing the business for an eventual transition.

What started as a single legal matter became a long term advisory relationship that supported multiple stages of the client's journey.
That's the type of relationship we value most.
Not simply helping clients solve problems. Helping them navigate change.

Introducing an Expanded Leadership Team

The launch of Realgate Legal also marks an important milestone for our firm.
We're proud to formally welcome Partners Jonathan Green and Luke Shumack to the leadership team.

While many clients already know Jonathan and Luke, the rebrand provides an opportunity to introduce the broader expertise they bring to the firm.

Jonathan Green brings extensive experience in property transactions, development projects, acquisitions and conveyancing. His expertise allows us to support developers, investors and property owners through increasingly complex property matters.

Luke Shumack brings significant experience in commercial transactions, business growth, compliance, privacy and strategic advisory matters. His focus is helping businesses navigate growth opportunities while managing risk.

Together, our leadership team reflects the broader needs of the clients we serve.
Not just real estate businesses, but property owners, developers, investors, business owners, and families planning for the future.

New Services. Same Philosophy.

One of the most exciting developments associated with the launch of Realgate Legal is the expansion of our service offering. This includes the launch of residential conveyancing services across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

For many years, agency clients have asked whether we offered conveyancing services.
The answer is now yes.
The launch of our conveyancing offering allows us to support buyers and sellers through another important stage of the property journey.

We're also expanding our property development and project advisory services.
Development projects involve significant risk, investment and decision-making long before construction begins.

From due diligence and acquisitions through to joint ventures, development management agreements and project structuring, having the right advice early can make a significant difference to the outcome of a project.

Importantly, these new services aren't a departure from what we've always done.
They're a natural extension of it. The same practical advice. The same commercial focus. The same commitment to helping clients make informed decisions.

Case Study
Helping a Client Avoid a Costly Development Risk

A property investor approached our team after identifying what appeared to be an attractive development opportunity. Before committing to the acquisition, we assisted with due diligence and review of the proposed transaction structure.

During that process, several risks were identified that had not been considered as part of the original proposal. By addressing those issues early, the client was able to restructure the transaction and significantly reduce potential future exposure.

The most valuable legal advice often isn't about solving a problem. It's about helping clients avoid one.

What Happens Next?

The launch of Realgate Legal represents the beginning of a new chapter.
But it's important to recognise what isn't changing.
The people.
The relationships.
The commitment to practical advice.
The focus on helping clients achieve their goals.
The legal industry continues to evolve.
The real estate industry continues to evolve.
The property market continues to evolve.
And we believe the best advisors evolve alongside their clients.

Realgate Legal is our commitment to doing exactly that.
To continuing to support clients as they protect, grow, acquire, develop, transition and eventually exit. Wherever you are in your journey, our role remains the same.
To help you pursue opportunities with confidence while protecting what matters most.
